Editing Fun

I discovered this fun edit challenge while reading a post by Deanna at Snippets From Springdale. I love editing photos, so I was excited to find "Creative License Friday" over at "she who carries a camera". Each week a photo is posted and anyone is allowed to edit and post their version of the photo.
Here is the original photo.

Here is my version.
I thought this bird would look lovely resting on a branch full of spring blossoms. I think it adds the perfect touch to my photo : )
After seeing the fun edit from thesmittenimage, I decided to stray from my first try and go a bit out of the box to add it to a photo of my own. Here is what I did to achieve this edit:
1. I uploaded both photos and reduced my photo by 50% because it was too large in comparison to the bird photo.
2. I layered the bird photo onto my photo and brushed out all of the background.
3. I then used ctrl+T to transform by enlarging and placing the bird where I wanted it.
4. I added the texture Comfort by RHWest at 75% on soft light.
5. I then ran it through the Topaz Simplify plug-in
     -Painting => Painting IV =>Finishing Touches => Transparency at 45% => Global Adjustment => Adjust => Dynamics at 125% => Structural Boost 125%
And that was that.

  1. Hello Cathy, so nice to meet you! I'm in awe of what you did...the edit looks real! If I didn't know better, I would have thought you hadn't edited it at all. I'm going to have to learn how to do that. This challenge is really turning out to be quite a learning tool. Thank you for joining in! I'm going to go browse your blog now, and put you in my reader!

  2. What a great job with the edit....he sure looks like he belongs right there on the pink blooms......

  3. Oh, wow. I love what you did with the edit. Very, very creative and well done. :)

  4. it's wonderful! I wonderful how it would look if the flowers are white so that the bird stands out better but it's still wonderful!

    have a great day.

  5. Lovely way how you've edit the bird on the branches, great idea to think out of the box. While visiting your blog, I took a grant tour... and liked what I saw, so I will be your newest follower.

Nice to meet you and until next Creative License Friday,

  6. that is just the coolest thing!
what a wonderful toy....thanks for introducing me:)

  7. So creative, you brought spring in to the picture! Thanks for the tutorial of how you proceeded with editing!
I'm popping by from the Creative License Friday, Nina

  8. What a refreshing edit. I can almost smell the blossoms and the pink contrasting the little yellow finch is wonderful.

  9. Now that is indeed a nice job placing this little bird among the tree blooms -- and the yellow on the bird pops him out from the pink.. Nice Nice job..Love it!!

  10. Gorgeous Images!Love them all! :)

  11. That's clever! He looks much happier amongst the blossom, I know I would be ;)

  12. Kathy, I just love what you've done with this--definately photoshop magic! And it's so lovely!
